Smit hits the front at Oubaai

Monique Smit22 February 2014 – Southern Cape’s Monique Smit produced a golfing masterclass over the front nine at Oubaai Golf Club to set the early target in the R150,000 Dimension Data Ladies Pro-Am in George on Saturday.
Smit, a regular on the Ladies Asian Golf Tour, had two early birdies at the second and fourth, but dropped a shot at the par-three sixth. The 23-year-old local favourite used her home course knowledge to dip to four under with three birdies before the turn and started the back nine one shot clear of two-time Ladies European Tour (LET) winner, Ashleigh Simon.

Simon eyes victory at Dimension Data Ladies Pro-Am

Ashleigh Simon21 February 2014 – South Africa’s Ashleigh Simon has targetted a South African triple at the Dimension Data Pro-Am in George, after Kim Williams and Tandi von Ruben lifted the titles in the first two events of the new Sunshine Ladies Tour.

Williams won on pro debut at the Chase to the Investec Cup for Ladies at Houghton, and Von Ruben defeated amateur Magda Kruger in a play-off to capture her fourth pro title at the Sun International Challenge at Lost City.

Simon is hopeful that she, or one of the other South Africans in the line-up will triumph against a strong international presence in the R150,000 event that tees off at Oubaai Golf Club on Saturday, 22 February.

Pace applauds new Dimension at Ladies Pro-Am

Lee-Anne Pace19 February 2014 – Dimension Data has raised the stakes in the Investec Cup for Ladies race and underlined its support of women’s golf in South Africa with record prize money of R150,000 on offer at the Dimension Data Pro-Am in George this weekend. 

This marks a lucrative R50,000 jump on the initial R100,000 purse announced at the launch of the Sunshine Ladies Tour and the additional R25,000 on offer to the leading six professionals in the Betterball competition takes the overall prize money for the seven-event series to R975,000.

The announcement was welcomed by the country’s leading golfer, eight-time Ladies European Tour winner Lee-Anne Pace, who will join fellow LET winners Ashleigh Simon from South Africa and Anna-Lise Caudal from France in the 36-hole event.

Von Ruben prevails at Sun International Challenge

Tandi von Ruben17 February 2014 – Former South African Women’s Open champion Tandi von Ruben claimed her fourth professional victory at the Sunshine Ladies Tour’s Sun International Challenge, after edging top SA amateur Magda Kruger with a birdie at the first play-off hole at Lost City.

Both players carded 72s in the final round and ended the regulation 36 holes on one-under-par 143, but it was on the return to the par-five 18th for the second time that the Ladies European Tour campaigner showcased her talent and secured her victory.

Von Ruben, Kruger a happy double act at Sun City

Tandi von RubenSUN CITY, 16 February 2014 – Top South African amateur Magda Kruger was in a buoyant mood after a one-under-par 71 earned her a share of the first round lead at the Sunshine Ladies Tour’s Sun International Challenge, but it was former SA Women’s Open champion Tandi von Ruben who had more reasons to be happy following the opening round at the Lost City Golf Course.

Chase to Investec Cup for Ladies joy for rookie Williams

 Kim Williams14 February 2014 - Not even if the celebrated Stephen Spielberg himself had produced the final round of the Chase to the Investec Cup for Ladies could he have added more drama to the last nine holes than newly-minted champion Kim Williams supplied in her pro debut victory at Houghton Golf Club.

The Pretoria player led by one after an opening 70 in the Sunshine Ladies Tour’s launch event and carded a 73 to edge out fellow rookie Nicole Garcia for a one stroke victory on one-under-par 143.


Williams dares to dream at Chase to Investec Cup for Ladies

Kim Williams13 February 2014 – South Africa’s Kim Williams enjoyed the perfect start to her pro career when she hit the front at the Sunshine Ladies Tour’s first Chase to the Investec Cup for Ladies at Houghton Golf Club on Thursday. The 27-year-old overcame a wobbly start to close with a two-under-par 70 and a one shot edge over compatriots Monique Smit and Caryn Louw, and Ladies European Tour (LET) campaigner Holly Aitchison from England.


Bregman shares third at Volvik Ladies Masters

Stacy-Lee Bregman9 February 2014 – South Africa’s Stacy Lee Bregman tied for third with Sweden’s Camilla Lennarth at the Volvik RACV Ladies Masters, where American Cheyenne Woods captured her first pro title with a two shot victory at RACV Royal Pines Resort in Queensland.
Bregman dropped two shots on her outward nine, but eliminated the damage with gains at the 14th, 16th and 18th holes to close with a 72. Lennarth, meanwhile, came home in three under 69 to join Bregman on 12-under-par 280.


Broken club aids Bregman to Volvik Ladies Masters lead

7 FeStacy-Lee Bregmanbruary 2014 – Stacy-Lee Bregman rose above an unexpected handicap to grab a share of the second round lead at the VOLVIK RACV Ladies Masters in Australia.

The South African was forced to navigate the par-73 layout at the RACV Royal Pines Resort in Queensland with just 13 clubs in her bag after snapping her eight-iron at the opening hole when she hit a tee, but this only inspired a flawless performance from the Johannesburg.


Pace, Bregman quick off the pace in Australia

Lee-Anne PaceLadies European Tour champion Lee-Anne Pace and compatriot Stace-Lee Bregman made a fast start down under to finish within striking distance in the first round of the VOLVIK RACV Ladies Masters.

The South African duo returned a pair of four-under-par 69s at the RACV Royal Pines Resort in Queensland to tie for third alongside Valentine Derrey from France, Canada’s Lorrie Kane and Cheyne Woods from the United States.
